After losing in the play-off final Bristol City have released their top scorer Darren Byfield, the former Gills striker hasn’t impressed at the club and now must be a target for us. Byfield spend some time on loan at Blackpool when he was at Villa, making just three appearances. At 31 now he is getting on and has played for 12 clubs all with varying success.

Big lad Enoch Showumni, midfielder Alex Russell, Martin Slocombe and Tamas Vasko’s have also been relased. It seems like Gary Johnson is having a little re think about his team, maybe he’s got some money to play with.

With our league season coming to an end sometime ago and the play-offs this weekend thoughts have turned to next season. The pre season line up was annouced and guess what…. Its a match at Fleetword to start then over to Riga in Latvia for a couple of games.
Returning from Latvia we then play Wrexham at the Racecource ground. Its the back on the plane to go to Northern Ireland for two games, no news on teams yet. There will be Tuesday night game to be annouced and then a last game at Tranmere.
So at the moment there is no home game, the planned Tuesday match may be at home with opposition I’m guessing a North West top flight side either Wigan or Blackburn.
The only change from the past seasons is that we’ll be going to Northern Ireland rather than Scotland, as for no home games it probably good as I’m sure that ticket prices would be set so high nobody would go!
Pre Season 2008 Fixtures
12/7 Fleetwood Town A
14/7 FC Daugava A
15/7 Skonto Riga A
19/7 Wrexham A
29/7 TBA
2/8 Tranmere A

As we know Paul Dickov’s goals were really important at the end of the season, 6 in total and they did help us to stay up. I’m not sure what is going to be happening to the wee Scot in the summer, he may be moving downunder to play in the Australian league.
Anyway here’s a very dramatical video of his goals including the volley against Sheffield Wednesday. Whammy!

Over the past two weeks there has been loads of post about the Blackpool FC ticket rises on AVFTT, Vital and the Seasiders mailing list. The main point is that the 30% rise in a season ticket for some is a bit too much for the pocket to take. With the Bank of England today announcing that the cost of living is set to continue to rise the increase in prices has upset many.
Fans have reacted very angrily, some will boycott, some may only go the select games and one on the Seasiders mailing list is considering going to watch Manchester City. It’s such a pity to see after a great season fans being treat like crap.
It’s not surprising really that we have been treated like this, it may be a way of reducing the number of fans at the match thus to not have the problem of selling out in every match
One picture sums it up, it was posted on the Seasiders mailing list.

A point from the Watford game was enought to secure victory. We could have lost the game with Coventry losing and Leicester drawing against Stoke but we were unlucky not to take all three points. Big Ben Burgess grabbed a goal early on in the game, his 11th of the season. Darius Henderson was sent off in the second half but then Tommy Smith scored to make the game all level.

Overall it’s been a good season we were tipped to go down, in the end Leicester who are a massive club did, so considering the comparison of resources, fans base and players were over achieved. With Swansea and Forest coming up next season it’s going to be even tougher. Leeds may join then too investment is a must.
We also should work on extending a lead, numerous times this season we’ve managed to take leads in game Stoke, Sheffield United, Hull, Watford etc.
Preparation for next season starts tomorrow when the cull of current players is announced, 13 players have contracts up at the end of the season – Jorgensen, Jackson, Coid, Burgess, Morrell, Flynn, Hills, Paul Tierney, Simon Wiles, Phil Doughty, Andy Welsh, Marcus Bean, Keigan Parker. Out of that list I can only see Jorgensen, Coid, Burgess and Morrell getting contract.
