Premier League Squad Sizes, In’s & Outs

Still no new players to bolster  the squad. Some fans have become a little nervous, tetchy…. frustrated. So I thought I’d compare our dealing with the rest of the Premier League, in the hope of finding out if other teams have also been inactive in trading (data is from Sky Sports).

Good news! 3 other clubs have yet to make a signing, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur. Leading the way is Sunderland with five new faces at the Stadium of Light.

But… as many have pointed out, comparing in’s and out’s is a tad pointless as you have to take into context the existing squad sizes. So another little fact finding mission and here are the totals for the squad sizes. Totals include players on loan, but not if a player is being loaned out e.g. If we loaned Almond out our squad size would be 1 less.

Just to make the blog pretty here’s a nice little graph.

erm….. right thats’s not made me feel much better. Time for another beer.

EDIT : Not good, Blackpool have 20 not 21 as Sky still have McPhee counted.

When we sign a new player, which will happen I fully expect a reception similar to the one given to Albert Riera who signed for Olympiakos. Thats support.

Crewe 1 – 0 Blackpool FT

erm, that didn’t go to plan. First of all they looked very tired, Baptiste looked shattered as did GTF and Charlie. In the first half we played veyr poorly with Eardley in midfield and Husband at right back which seemed a strange decision. In the second we held the ball well but lacked any cutting edge and most importantly a striker.

As for the trialists.

A – Midfielder (Sunny)

Played well in the second half very much a defensive midfielder, did win the ball on many occasions not from touch tackles but from being quick and being able to turn away from his man. Did however give the ball away on a number of occasions, that may have been due to a lack of options ahead of him. He played the full 90. May be worth a deal on loan.

B- Winger, blond hair tall.

Did well in the first half infront of the Pool fans, beating his man a couple of times, taking the ball inside and also winning back possession.  Faded in the second half and bumped off the ball on numerous occasions. His only shot in the second half was nearer the corner flag than the goal, played about 75 mins.

C- Striker

Bulky forward very much in the fashion of Martins or Yakubu. Had a nice turn, run and shot in the first half but then wasn’t supplied with anything for the rest of the first half. Did well holding the ball up due to his strengh but only played 45.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that we need players in soon, with a striker being the priority. If you look at the three teams that went up last season all brought in a “big striker” in the summer, Fletcher – Burnley, Kevin Doyle – Wolves and Chucho Benitez – Birmingham.

Crewe 1 – 0 Blackpool HT

Half time and one down from a free kick that was headed then tapped in. The nearest we have come is Charlie Adam hitting the bar from a volley.

We’ve played with three trialists, a blond haired fella on the left wing who’s looked good. Upfront a stocky fella who’s had a few good turns and runs. Finnally Sunny in the middle who’s been ok but given the ball awY a couple of times.

Let’s hope for a better half with some new faces.

Crewe V Pool

So tonight we continue our pre season which so far has seen us unbeaten, yes maybe not against the stiffest competition but keeping winning ways is always important. Crewe is always an enjoyable away day, pub and the chippy round the corner and great to be close to the action.

PB230001

I have no clue to tonight’s team but considering two games in two days over the weekend it should contain a few trialists, it would be nice to see Francis Jeffers who’s played a number of games for us so far. Another name is Stephen Obayan Sunday a Nigerian midfielder who currently plays for Valencia. Dekel Keinan could play as could Malaury Martin who missed the back end of the Devon trip with an injury.

If they don’t turn up, then I might bring my boots.

Big Screen at Bloomers?

I looks like we could  have a big screen at the ground as part of the new East stand. Plans which can be downloaded from the council site specs out a space for the big screen!

However in the Design and Access Statement document there is no description of the screen.
