Ben Burgess ended the season as Blackpool’s top scorer with nine league goals and one League Cup goal. His place as striker in the side has been questioned by somewhat lacklustre performances, but his height has caused problems for numerous Championship defenses. Out of his nine league goals this season his strike against Charlton Athletic stands out. Blackpool lost the game at the Valley 4-1, with Burgess volleying in from all of 30 yards lobbing Nicky Weaver in the Charlton goal. Ben’s contract was extended at the end of the season by one year.
