Whats a result, what a performance, what a day, what a game, what a season this is turning out to be. There’s no doubt today we weathered the storm and thanks to a man of the match performance from Matthew Gilks managed to keep ourselves in the match. But in truth for all the possession and chances Newcastle had they didn’t look like grabbing a goal.

We should have been 1 up earlier on when DJ missed a one-on-one, something that happend last year when we went to lose 4-1. The goal was deserved from a great move from the loanee Varney drawing the foul from Smith.

After 20 mins in the second half it was clear to see that with Newcastle coming forward we would have chances on the break. We took our time but DJ took his chance with a awesome finish!

It was great to see both goals celebrated with a reference to Gary Parkinson who’s currently in hospital after a stroke, hopefully this result will do something to aid is recovery!

So seven points in the bag, 4th in the league, and another huge step today to survival!

Half time and one nil up after a few shaky moments and we scored from the spot. That never looked likely after Lee Mason ran the Lee Mason show featuring dodgy decisions and inconsistency.

Carroll won pretty much everything in the air and came closest hitting the post. Bit we should have bee ahead with Harper saving from Campbell on a 1-on-1.

Varney won the pen being tripped from a surging run. It was good to see Charlie celebrate holding a Gary Parkinson shirt who’s currently hospital after a stroke.

So just need to hold on for 45 mins!

New to this season online is the Seasiders Podcast which is already at episode five. It’s a great listen as it about the Pool but also the lads who’ve put it together are pretty funny talking about the wind down on the beach, choice of pre match pubs, etc etc.

You can listen directly from the web page on http://clickblackpool.com or you can subscribe via iTunes and get the podcast delivered when you sync your iPod / iPhone.

It’s truly a great listen so head over to the site and have a listen!

Blackpool V Fulham

So league football returns to Bloomfield Road tomorrow and it’s Premier League Football. Tomorrow is set to be our largest attendance for a very long time, for me the largest crowd I’ve even seen at Bloomers.

The last visit from Fulham wasn’t all that long ago (in comparison to the largest gate), back in October 1998 Fulham took all three points in a 3-2 win. The away side went 2-0 up, John Hills pulled one back but Geoff Horsefield regained the two goal lead before the break. Marin Aldridge grabbed a goal in the second half to make the score more respectable.  see stats. That day 5,904 were present, it’s looking like it will be around 17,000 on Saturday.  And for the first time in ages more in Bloomfield Road than down the road at Dumpdale.

It looks like Evatt will come back into the back four after missing out midweek, in fact it should be the same line up as the Arsenal game bar Harewood who picked up a hamstring strain. Brett could start, but there is still a few hours till the Friday deadline, Luke Varney has been mentioned as a loan signing.

Here’s hoping we can keep Bobby quiet tomorrow and pick up another three points and start to build a fortress at Bloomfield Road!

Arsenal 6 – 0 Blackpool

So we shipped a few goals today but we did ourselves proud singing from the first min to the last. Currently Chelsea are spanking wigan by six goals. We know have a benchmark against a relegation team, Wigan and against a top team Arsenal.

So now we need to see what we can do against a mid table team Fulham.

Anyway time for another beer on the train!

The Emirates Tomorrow

Yeah, so tomorrow we’re playing at The Emirates, against Arsenal in the League, the Premier League, not the FA Cup Third round or the early stages of the League Cup but the League. Still sounds strange but even stranger I feel pretty confident after our win at Wigan and the problems Arsenal have with players out and Fabregas & van Persie still not fully fit we could come back with a point or maybe more. If not, it’s going to be a fun day out!

Wigan 0 – 4 Blackpool

Well that was a good start to the season. As mentioned in my last post I wasn’t able to attend. I stayed close to action via my phone celebrating as the goals went in.

To be top of the league for a couple of hours is unthinkable, just a pity that Chelsea grabbed 6. Still a Champions League spot will do. Joking aside a great result but more importantly 3 points on the board and three points from a potential relegation rival.

Can’t wait to see match of the day on Monday!!

Wigan Tomorrow

So the journey and the ride begins again tomorrow at Wigan, unfortunately I’ll be joining a little later on with it being the other half’s Birthday tomorrow! I know first game of the season how disrespectful of her!

Joking aside, tomorrow and for the rest of the season we need to back the players, back Ollie and back the club no matter the results. Just a week ago people were worried about not bring in anyone, getting angry at KO and Ollie, we’ve now got 6 players in, players with top flight experience and young talented players. There was no need to worry.

If we lose 6-0 one week thats ok, we have pick ourselves up, forget the result, keep on singing, keep the noise levels up allow the lads to keep playing football. Some of the new lads might take weeks and maybe months to settle down but everyone Ollie’s brought in so far has been an improvement on before.

So here’s looking forward to another great season of ups and downs, but this time in the PREMIER LEAGUE!

Ian Holloway

In Ollie we trust!

A third loss on the trot but a good performance in the 1st half while our starting 11 played. With a little better finishing we could and should have been up by 3 or 4 in the first half. Jason Euell alone should have 3 or four goals. Let’s hope for some signings this week!
