Back to the South Stand

Rumours have been flying around ever since the work started on the South and today it was confirmed the residents of the North will be moving to the South Stand. The reason why hasn’t been given but it’s most likely that the North will now be used for away fans.

In footballing terms I’m sure the players don’t really care but at least now there will be fans at both ends of the ground to kick towards.

This most likely is the nail in the coffin for the temporary East stand which is falling apart, ask the Preston fan that broke the floor of the stand.

It will be strand to see the atmosphere change and I’m guessing that the fans in the most Northern parts of the West stand will be looking to move.

Following on from my own South Stand Video another one has been produced by davesowerby39 which can be seen on YouTube.

This time it’s the last month or so where the steel work and concrete has been going up, well worth a watch!

As we know the South Stand is slowly being built. In celebration of the last game of the season I’ve created a time lapse video from a period in January and February using the images from the webcam.

I’ll carry on saving the images over the next few months and create on or two more videos. The video above shows the early pilling work and then pretty much nothing being done over the last 2 / 3 minutes.

It seems that some progress is being made on the south stand! Some white blocks or something have turned up!

The south stand stars to be built

The match wasn’t up to much yesturday but one thing everyone took notice of was the visable building work on the south stand with pilling started on the front and back of the stand.

I still thing it’s not going to be finished in time for the start of next season but at least progress is being made.

The South Stand may being built (slowly) but fans have been taking advantage of watching games from the Travelodge on Bloomfield Road which overlooks the South Stand. Every thought what the view is like from the Travelodge well a Carlisle fan who is documenting his journey around the league 92 took some pictures back in July.

He rated the ground as 3/10 for stadium character and wish to go back to stadium as 3/10. Can’t blame him. For a full set of pictures head over to the site.

South Stand Is Go?

Call Bob the builder the South Stand at Bloomfield Road is go, there has been a statement on the offcial site saying that the stand will go ahead and it looks like Uncle Valerie is stumping up the cache.

“It gives me great pride and pleasure to announce that the new South Stand and South-West Corner will go ahead immediately. I am investing substantially in this new development in a full partnership with the Oyston family.

I am delighted with the way the club has advanced since I became involved and may I take this opportunity to congratulate all those fans who have supported the club in these exciting times. My congratulations also go out to the directors, staff and our courageous players for their achievements last season. In particular, I wish to thank the manager, Simon Grayson, for the wonderful job that he has carried out, which has cemented our present Championship status.

The proposed increase in seat capacity in the East Stand and the new 3,500 seats soon to be built in the South and South West corner will give, I believe, a clear signal to the football industry and potential new players for Blackpool Football Club that we are serious contenders to advance further. I sincerely hope that those fans who have been critical of the lack of a South Stand facility will be as pleased as I am with the news and will now get behind the club to add further momentum in our drive forward.

The future is tangerine.”

An interview with Karl Oyston advised that fans could be in the seats by the end of the year although the entire project has been given a timescale of 40 weeks!!

South Stand Is Go?

East Stand stays at Bloomfield Road and is extended by 972 seats

The East Stand at Bloomfield Road has been given permission to stay and be extended by 972 seats, but the council are not happy with the lack of progress in the development in the ground considering the re-development of the central corridor in Blackpool.

It means that although the stand has been given permission to stay but they have advised that the license will only permit the stand to stay for three years, till 2011.

Councilor Jim Houldsworth said: “I’m very disappointed that this has come to committee again and that the club, having had five years to get this stand built, has not yet done so. I feel if it’s granted we should look on it as the final three years.

“I know we cannot pre-empt what might be decided in future years but I feel we ought to make our feelings known that this has gone on long enough and we are looking for improvement in the development of the site and in the aesthetics of the stadium.”

Once again it s disgrace and Oyston has got his way, meaning that there will be no development on the East until 2011. More away fans will be able attend matches next year, around 2700, but no extra room for home fans as splitting the East for home and away fans doesn’t seem like an option due to no exits / food stalls for two sets of supporters.

There is a solution to all of this, build a South Stand.

No…. thats the view from the latest poll, as we know it’s been major problem / pain in the arse having a half stadium, the game against West Brom tomorrow night has sold out once again, we on for almost 70% + games sold out for the home fans this season, so what does Karl Oyston do, get planning permission for extra seats in the away end!

So not many votes but pretty unanimous that no work is going to be started in 2008 on the south stand. So it looks like more fans on the fence at Bloomers.

West stand car park to be redeveloped

ReBlackpool is a website from the Urban Regeneration company who are helping to deliver the vision of Blackpool Resort Masterplan. I’m not sure if that ferry running aground was part of their plans. What is part of their plans is to re-develop the car park adjacent to the West Stand at Blackpool FC. Adding plants, seating areas and a general area to mull about.

The’ve put up a nice little picture on their blog which includes……….hang on……..a South-East stand!!! They have set a start and completion date of 2008 with a total cost looking at £1.7 million.
