There was never any doubt that DJ Campbell was going to sign, it was like Wes all over again, we were always going to get him it just took a little time to secure the deal.

Looking over his stats from the two loan spells 20 goals in 38 games which pretty decent. All that remains is where to play him? we played with four attacking players last week, could we have five?

Matt Phillips in – More to come?

So transfer deadline day and we have started well with one in already, Matt Phillips from Wycombe. We’ve paid £325,000 for the winger with that possible rising to £700,000, there’s also a sell on fee. Only 19 Phillips has played 78 times for Wycombe scoring 8 goals, he’s also played for England under 19′s 5 times scoring 2 including this last minute goal against France.

He made his debut a few months after his 17th Birthday and in his time at Wycombe won two ‘Young Player of the Year’ awards at the end of the season as well as the League Two ‘Apprentice of the Year’.

He looks like another good young player to add to the squad with a raving review from Steve Claridge.

few…….. 4 players in today as expected Craig Cathcart from Manchester United, Ludovic Sylvestre from Mlada Bolesla, Elliot Grandin from CSKA Sofia and Malaury Martin on a free from AS Monaco.

Ludovic Sylvestre To Sign

The latest name to linked is Ludovic Sylvestre. The French midfielder started off at Barcelona, he moved onto Sparta Prague and to Mladá Boleslav where he played last season. A quick check on YouTube and there are a couple good vids, the first one he sets up a goal 1:25 and scored a cracker 2:00. Another goal at 5:50 after a great break-a-way run.

In the second video great bit of play and skill at 1:10. Sets up a goal on 5:00. Scored at 7:30

We have always been a club to wait til the last moment in the summer to make signings. Not sure why, maybe to avoid a wage bill in July? Here’s a quick list of 9 players we have signed in in August, remember in the football league the start of the season is a week before the start to the Premier League.

Premier League Squad Sizes, In’s & Outs

Still no new players to bolster the squad. Some fans have become a little nervous, tetchy…. frustrated. So I thought I’d compare our dealing with the rest of the Premier League, in the hope of finding out if other teams have also been inactive in trading (data is from Sky Sports).

Good news! 3 other clubs have yet to make a signing, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur. Leading the way is Sunderland with five new faces at the Stadium of Light.

But… as many have pointed out, comparing in’s and out’s is a tad pointless as you have to take into context the existing squad sizes. So another little fact finding mission and here are the totals for the squad sizes. Totals include players on loan, but not if a player is being loaned out e.g. If we loaned Almond out our squad size would be 1 less.

Just to make the blog pretty here’s a nice little graph.

erm….. right thats’s not made me feel much better. Time for another beer.

EDIT : Not good, Blackpool have 20 not 21 as Sky still have McPhee counted.

Dekel Keinan the First of Many?

According to speculation from various sources Israeli central defender Dekel Keinan is set to be the first player to sign ahead of the new season. Released from Maccabi Haifa at the end of last season he’s got 15 international caps to his name and he’s also got three brilliant videos on YouTube, the best being the first. Looks quick and strong in the air!

And so it starts the speculation about signings for next year, the one that’s got me really excited is Patrick McCourt from Celtic for £500k. As ever we turn to YouTube for scouting, the frist two videos one is called “Paddy McCourt – The Derry Pelé” and the other “Paddy McCourt – “The Messi With Beard” Compilation”

He’s fallen out of favour at Celtic, but at 26 he might not fit the bill of a young player with a prospect for the future considering he already had a chance to make in English football with Rochdale but ended up back in Ireland with Shamrock and Derry.

He’s got some skills anyway, a new Wes?
