Nathan, Nathan and Kirk

A good transfer deadline last Friday which saw us hold onto our players, there may have been some late bids but Matt Phillips and Tom Ince were going nowhere, they actually were on the bus to Leicester great timing!

We did however do a little business to bring in two on Friday and a further new face today. Lets have a look at the new recruits.

Nathan Eccleston

21-year-old Nathan Geoffrey Junior Eccleston (unlucky with the middle names there) came from Liverpool where he was unable to make an impact. He made a handful of appearances at Liverpool after moving from Bury as a youth player, (he’s a Manc not a Scouser) but never was able to get a regular place in the squad never mind in the team.

It’s behind you Nathan

He has some League One experience with three loan spells at Huddersfield, Charlton and Rochdale, a total of 37 appearances with 5 goals.

He seems a bit of a player, but that’s a reference to off the field activities. Anyway here’s hoping he’ll be able to make an impact, he’s on a contract till the end of the season with the option of a further year.

Nathan Delfouneso

Another Nathan, but this time Delfouneso or the ‘The Fonz’. He’s had plenty of chances at Villa notching up 31 appearances and a couple of goals (one against us in the 3-2 defeat at Villa).  He’s also had time on loan in the Championship with the Dingles down the road and Leicester. Seen somewhat as a similar player to Gabby Agbonlahor Nathan has had to wait for a run in the first team. He’s still in the plans long-term at Villa with another two years on his contract, that was signed a year ago and since then with a new manager at Villa (they try a new one one every year) it seems he’s not going to feature for Villa again this year considering he’s on a year-long loan at the Seaside.

It looks like he’s be either playing the forward role or on the wing, his spell at Leicester he featured on the wing. He’s certainly got the attributes to do well at Bloomfield but just have to see if he gets a chance with Ince, GTF, Phillips X2 ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment. Let’s hope for some Happy Days at Bloomfield Road for the ‘The Fonz’.

Kirk Broadfoot

Today Kirk Broadfoot was confirmed as a Pool player, being a free agent he was able to sign after the deadline on Friday. He’s one of the many from the Rangers exodus but admitted that he nearly signed for the Pool a couple of years ago.

It’s good to see some defensive cover to come in considering the two Nathans are forwards and the rest of our signing this summer have appeared to be midfielders. He’s generally played at center half for Rangers, but has been known to play at right back.

Interesting story about Kirk, he had to go to hospital when an egg exploded in his face – http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/may/15/kirk-broadfoot-egg-explosion-rangers

Kirk's worst nightmare Kirk’s worst nightmare

All looks good lets hope they can make an impact!

Another three in with 4 days to go

Three new faces today with only four days to go till the opener against Millwall. James Caton who’s only 18, I’m guessing the plan is to be in the development squad. He did grab a goal in the friendly against Everton and with only GTF fit at the moment he maybe nearer to the first team that you would think. If your down with the kids then he’s on twitter @James_Caton94.

The second is a 22-year-old Spaniard Alberto Noguera, who was on trial with us during the week in Portugal. He’s another midfielder taking our count to 15, I think. He’s also on twitter – @NogueraAlberto.

Last but not least we’ve brought in Adda Djeziri who’s played under Ollie before at Leicester. An Algerian-Dane he’s also spent time in England for Portsmouth but according to his stats he’s never really made it in England. He’s since been back to Denmark playing for a selection of clubs.

He’s not on twitter but there’s a nice video of him playing for Pompy.

At the moment nothing that really set the heart racing but it looks like we might be close to signing Stephen Dobbie who would be our marquee signing for the summer. If not I’m sure everything will go smoothly on the opening day! Most importantly my ticket arrived!
